ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

The Kent School District recognizes the value of electronic resources to improve student learning and enhance the administration and operation of its schools. To this end, the Board of Directors promotes the development of digital citizenship – living safely, civilly, and effectively in our increasingly digital world – and encourages the responsible use of electronic resources in support of the mission and goals of the Kent School District and its schools.

The District uses electronic resources as powerful and compelling means for students to learn core subjects and applied skills in relevant and rigorous ways. Students must have rich and ample opportunities to use technology for important purposes in schools, outside of classroom walls, and beyond the school day – just as individuals in high performance workplaces and other real-life settings do.

To help ensure student safety and citizenship in online activities, all students will be educated about appropriate behavior including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms, and cyberbullying awareness and response.

The Board directs the superintendent or designee to create robust electronic educational systems that support innovative teaching and learning to develop student and staff proficiency in 21st century skills, and to provide procedures and training to promote appropriate and responsible technology use.
